DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Tuesday\, June 4th\, as we welcome back Cheryl Slean to our NVIM community. Cheryl is a playwright\, filmmaker\, and a UCLA certified mindfulness teacher who has also graduated from Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s Dedicated Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner programs. She has been practicing Buddhist meditation since 1995\, was trained to teach by Rodney Smith of Seattle Insight\, and has been teaching Dharma and meditation classes worldwide since 2007. Now based in Southern California\, Cheryl has served on the Teachers Councils at Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Center and Insight Community of the Desert. \nCheryl has participated in research and education on meditation and chronic pain\, stress reduction and substance addiction. She is a guiding teacher with Mindful Schools\, teaches mindfulness-based relapse prevention at Foundations Recovery Network and offers community mindfulness lectures and classes to the public. In addition to her work as a playwright and filmmaker\, Cheryl is the co-executive producer of VisionLA Climate Action Arts\, a nonprofit that engages the arts and entertainment communities in the sustainability movement. She is keenly interested in the promise of ethical mindfulness as a tool for social change.

Forrest has been practicing Insight Meditation since 2004 and is a founding member of Napa Valley Insight Meditation. DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday June 18th\, Napa Valley Insight Meditation will host a talk by Jill Satterfield. \nJill is an international embodied mindfulness and meditation teacher. Her teachings integrate mindfulness\, somatic therapy and contemplative psychology. \nShe is a founding member of Spirit Rock’s Mindful Yoga and Meditation Teacher Training\, teaches programs at Spirit Rock regularly and teaches Applied Embodied Mindfulness for UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center trainings. Jill is also a guest teacher and mentor for Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach’s Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training. She is a graduate of Sati Center’s Buddhist Chaplaincy Training and has been featured in publications including the NY Times\, Tricycle and Shambhala Sun. \nNVIM meets at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Napa (1625 Salvador Ave). All levels of experience are welcomed.
