SUMMARY:Daylong Retreat: The End of Craving with Cheryl Slean
DESCRIPTION:The End of Craving:\nA Practical Workshop-Retreat\nApril 21 2018\, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm \n The Buddha taught that freedom from suffering can be realized simply by letting go of craving.  Sounds good\, but simple doesn’t necessarily mean easy!  In practice we find that “letting go of craving” is a multifaceted learning process that involves recognizing craving in its many forms (what’s the difference between craving and wholesome desire?)\, viewing it correctly (not as a failing but as a natural human process)\, and learning to work with it skillfully.  Ultimately\, it’s compassion that lets go of craving: the wisdom of learning to see\, and to meet\, the authentic human needs at the core of craving’s pull. \nThis daylong meditation workshop will offer reflections\, meditation skills and some group process presenting a clear practice path to understand and release craving.  This work goes beyond personal development to improve our relationships and transform how we live in the world.  Anyone who’s had an introduction to mindfulness meditation is welcome to join us for this day of skill-building and insight.  Please bring writing materials and a bag lunch. \nWhat to bring: Please bring a lunch\, beverage and appropriate clothing for outside walking meditation \nSuggested Donation: $25 – $75\nNo one turned away for lack of funds\nAll levels of experience welcomed! \nFor More Information Contact\nBarbara Dondero at barbdondero@gmail.com \nCheryl Slean has been practicing Buddhist meditation intensively since 1995\, including hundreds of days of silent retreat. She was authorized to teach in 2007 and currently serves on the Teachers’ Councils at Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Center and Insight Community of the Desert. She teaches classes and residential retreats at spiritual\, secular\, health and business venues worldwide including Seattle Insight\, Mindful Schools\, Foundations Recovery Network\, Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center\, Santa Monica Hospital\, Google LAX\, New Life Foundation (Thailand) and many others. Cheryl is also a writer\, filmmaker and educator working in the arts and sustainability\, and is co-executive producer of VisionLA Climate Action Arts. \n

SUMMARY:Blessings For the Earth: Standing Together on Sacred Ground: Lori Stelling + Kit Long
DESCRIPTION:You are warmly welcomed to gather together this Tuesday\, April 24th\, from 7:00pm – 8:30pm\, for an evening of practice focused upon our relationship with the Earth. This special night will include gently guided sitting meditation\, optional walking meditation (over the tea break)\, inquiry into our individual and collective sense of connection and/or disconnection with this living planet\, and metta practice for the Earth. \nAs we experience the impact of global warming\, pollution\, water shortages\, droughts\, floods\, wildfires\, and other extreme conditions\, how do we refrain from going numb? How do we stand together\, on this sacred ground we call “Earth”\, with access to a clear mind and an open heart? What inspires the inner determination to include the Earth in our practice of non-harming? In what ways can we connect as spiritual friends to support one another in facing the challenges of our times and in caring for the natural world that is our home?
