A Buddhist Response To Climate Change: Lori Stelling w/Special Guest, Kit Long, co-chair of Napa Climate NOW

August 29, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Throughout this special evening, we will use the foundations of mindfulness and the practices of lovingkindness and compassion to stay with our present-time experience of body, mind and heart, as we look within at how we are coping with our warming planetWe will use our practice to notice the arising and passing feelings of fear, numbness, confusion, hope, curiosity, distress, anger, uncertainty— the full range of our response to climate change. Leaving ample time for sharing and discussion, we will also examine a distilled perspective about lesser known gases and particulates contributing to warming and what we can do to help care for the Earth that is our home.

Facing into climate change with others, can we use the Buddhist path to sustain our exploration into this uncharted territory, moment by moment? Will calming our thoughts and opening our hearts be effective in meeting the magnitude of the changes we are beginning to understand are on the way? Can we hold the collective intention to see clearly, share and listen openly, and lean into the fierce compassion that grows out of our love for life (vs. remaining frozen and/or fanning the flame of fear)? Please join us for this special community evening exploring climate change.

Our evening sittings generally begin with a 30 minute meditation, followed by a short break for tea and greetings. The Facilitator will then give a short talk on relevant themes and lead a group discussion.  All levels of experience are welcome.
